My dear Boys!
I wish to take the opportunity of addres
sing a hew words to you, before we begin our
new Competition Programma.
Let me review the events of the past few
months, in our football world, and therefrom
arrange a programme as to our future me
thod of training etc., in the hope that we
shall derive still better results than during
the past season.
At the end of last season, I was fully sa
tisfied that I had succeeded in bringing a
little system into our method of play, as the
results of our last competition games proved.
With this in mind,I decided that the sum
mer training should consist chiefly of indivi
dual ball handling, and we concentrated on
this aspect of training leaving out all practice
games tec. Then came the time that we must
revert to the latter, in order to be ready for
the A.R.O.L.-Beker.
Our first practice game was against the
,,Oud-Internationals", and I was satisfied
that we had given a good display, despite
the weakness of the opposition.
Our next game against Z.A.C. was, to
say the least, a very great surprise to me. I
could not believe that this was the same
team. Position and combination play was not
to be seen, and even that fighting-spirit that
must exist among a team of young, physi
cally fit, players, was also not to be seen.
Then followed that terible display against
N.A.C. in the A.R.O.L.-Beker, which was
far and away the worst exhibition. I had seen
from A.F.C. wring my time with the Club.
I'm not writing any further over these ga
mes, I've learnt a lot from them and now I
have forgotten them.
Then just to let people see that we could
still give a good exhibition, we have our last
game against Bloemendaal. Here we saw a
little combination again, and more important
we saw eleven hard-workers, for whom no
thing was too much, or too difficult
hence the result.
Now as to my future plans.
We have now begun our training with the
aid of Electric light, as that we can now train
at our leisure.
My intention is each evening to begin our
training for „Ausdauer" (hope I've spelt that
good), and then to hold a short theory over
the position play of the different lines. Im
mediately after this short theory talk, we
then begin a practice game when we can
concentrate on the practical application of
what I have just theoretically told you.
I am fully convinced that this will give us
good results, if each and all listen, and do
their utmost to bring into practice what they
have heard.
Of course, every player must be proesent,
and knowing you all as I do, I am sure that
you will make an extra effort to do so, not
alone for yourself, not alone for A.F.C.,
but also for me.
Your Coach and friend
PETER DONAGHY.
