Charles Lungen's successen.
Het zal iederen A.F.C.-er ongetwijfeld in
teresseeren eens iets over de verrichtingen
van Charles Lungen in het Bngelsche ama
teur-voetbal te vernemen. Nadat hij van
het seizoen meegeholpen had om zijn oude
club staande te houden vooral de wed
strijd tegen Zeeburgia zal ons tot in lengte
van dagen bijblijven had Charles den
echten smaak voor voetbal weer te pakken
gekregen. Hij vertelde toen al, dat waar het
seizoen zoo vroeg was geëindigd, hij nog wel
voor Wimbledon wilde uitkomen. Ofschoon
het inderdaad niet zoo eenvoudig is om bij
de in dit opzicht uiterst conservatieve Engel-
schen, als buitenlander een plaatsje in een
adspirant-kampioenselftal te krijgen, slaagde
Charles erin, zich door Wimbledon te doen
„uitverkiezen". Een club als Wimbledon
heeft n.l. slechts twee elftallen en wie niet
over voldoende capaciteiten beschikt om in
deze elftallen mee te komen, of liever ge
zegd, een der andere spelers te verbeteren,
heeft geen kans.
Dat Charles nog de laatste 6 wedstrijden
voor Wimbledon gespeeld heeft en aan het
behalen van het kampioenschap der Isthmian
League actief door een aantal van zijn be
kende goaltjes kon medehelpen, spreekt
boekdeelen voor zijn capaciteiten. Enkele
persoverzichten en aanhalingen uit versla
gen, zullen u onze „scoring-machine" weer
levendig voor oogen halen.

Wimbledon did not reveal their best form
in beating Leytonstone by three clear goals
at Plough-lane on Saturday. They were not
superior to that extent, but it must be said
they finished far better then the visitors, who
were handicapped in the second half by los
ing the services of Paul, the inside left.
Interest was given to the game by the in
clusion of J. Lungen, a player who has had
experience in Dutch amateur football, at in
side right for the home team. Dowden
changed places with the newcomer midway
through the first half and in his customary
position of centre forward Lungen created a
very favourable impression. Leytonstone re
lied on direct methods in which the veteran
Hall was outstanding. Had his efforts been
better supported Leytonstone would not have
gone away goalless, well as the „Dons" de
fenders played.
...and Lungen put over as he was tackled
by both backs. This effort, a really good one,
seemed to give Wimbledon's latest acquisi
tion new confidence. He tackled much better
and it was very satisfactory when he scored
35 minutes after the interval. The ball came
nicely to Lungen, whose shot beat Kipping
all the way. Two minutes later Potter cen
tred and Lungen's first time shot left the
visiting custodian helpless.
...and the Dutch boy, racing between the
Calies' backs, scored with a rasping shot.
