the "links buiten" should always be nearly'
opposite to the left goal post, with the "links
binnen" between him and the "mid voor" but
about six yards behind. To reverse applying
to the other wing it is of no importance who
scores the goals so long as the goals are
scored and it is no reflection of any forward
if he fails to score when his side have scored
a large number of goals. It is equally credit
able to provide a goal as to score one, some
times it is more so. Whenever a forward is
in the penalty area, he is in the shooting zone,
and at the first opportunity he must shoot not
only very hard, but also quickly. If he can
get a shot in without dribbling so much the
better. Never allow an opposing full back
a free kick at the ball, keep bothering him
and he is certain to make mistakes. The key
note of football is correct positional play
allied to skill in bringing the ball under con
trol quickly and making up ones mind in
stantly what to do with it. Every player in
the team must think before hand what he is
going to do with the ball when next it comes
into his possession. Too many inside for
wards when faced suddenly with an open
goal are left floundering, simply because they
have not been thinking of such a chance
coming their way. I advise all forwards to do
the unexpected. For example, the "links
binnen" should occasionally send a pass to
the "rechts buiten" and the "rechts binnen"
to the "links buiten". By varying ones play
the opposition are kept guessing as to what
is likely to happen next. The next week or
two should show an improvement in the play
of the different elevens and after one or two
more experiments in the probable 1st. team
forward line, satisfaction should be reached.
The first junior eleven possess much
promise for the future and it should not be
long before a number of them will be entitled
to promotion.
